Am I the only one that seems to answer your general advice questions anymore?

Here we go, my exhaustive list:

1) Books - Harrington on Holdem, all 4 of them. The information may not be as relevant in the current metagame, but I strongly suggest to anyone looking to improve their game to read them. If you're just going to play tournaments, skip the fourth book. You could probably also skip the third one and just play. Supersystem 2's hold'em section gets a little bit more advanced, and Negreanu's book on Hold'em will teach you better post-flop play. Any other games besides Hold'em you're playing, because I've got a few other suggestions, but they're more for mixed games.

2) Programs - PokerTracker or Holdem Manager. It's up in the air which one's better. Both are pieces of software that track you and your opponents' statistics, and both have overlays on tables (If you're playing online.) Look at both and see which one's right for you. PokerStove - Pretty much tells you odds for any range you put your opponent on at a given time. You won't be able to use it in hand, but you can certainly pull it up later to find stats on various ranges on hands you've played so you can learn where you're correct to call in certain spots.

I think you are the only one.

Thanks! I haven't been playing very much lately, but I will definitely read up on some of your suggestions.

I wonder if any of those books are available on audio, i can definitely use something to listen to during my morning commute

They probably are, but Supersystem would probably end up being about as long as the Bible, you'd have to find the chapters on Holdem.

Harrington would be a great audio read though. I'll say this, my rate of increase in Holdem tournaments improved drastically after I got through the first two Harrington books. Granted, this was like 2006 when it first came out and the tight aggro play he suggested was the way to play against the fish of the time, but a lot of it is still insanely useful to know.

Right now, everything's moving toward more post-flop play, so you really have to know how to play better after the flop more than before the flop. I have a feeling though that with all the small ball play that's going on, that Harrington's advice will be very pertinent again soon.

No problem. I may order it myself. I'm not playing anymore, but I'm morbidly curious to see what Harrington writes about the modern era of tournament play.
